These walls encompass me
Holding me prisoner
In my dark land of shadows
Where nothing is ever real
the world is full of false hopes
And broken dreams
Where words cut the heart
Like a jagged piece of glass
Thrust upon my flesh
By hatred and ignorance
And as you sit there, throwing your words
And wearing your masks
My soul bleeds red lust
Yet tender love for the man with faces
Faces made to fool the foolish
And lie to the liar
Masks of hurt and masks of pain
Masks I wish I had to hide myself
So plain and translucent
Yet so beautiful and loved
and as I’m counting all of my masks
I think of how it feels to stand on stage
waving to people I don’t know
and using a smile
a smile like a white picket fence
to try and win you over
because these are not for me
but a feeble attempt to win your love
because everybody loves
the beautiful girl
with a beautiful mask.
Why don’t you?

It sounds like something I'd write....but this poem earns you a place on my favorites list!
